Carpoforo (2020)

Milan, Italy

Milan’s streets conceal secrets within their geometric embrace. Woven through the urban fabric are spaces where time moves differently—quiet squares that seem to exist outside the city’s frenetic rhythm. San Carpoforo occupies one such threshold, a medieval sanctuary compressed between centuries of architectural layers.

What is most striking is the relationship between the sacred and the incidental. Café chairs rest casually against neighbouring walls. Modern buildings press close on either side, their contemporary surfaces framing this ancient structure. Yet Sant Carpoforo refuses to be diminished by its surroundings. It anchors the space with an understated presence, as though reminding those who pass that some things endure whilst the world reshapes itself around them.

Hidden not by walls but by the sheer indifference of a busy city, Sant Carpoforo persists in quiet testament to continuity, to belief, to the layers of meaning that lie beneath Milan’s surface.
